What an IQ of 120 means
An IQ of 120 means the score is one and a third standard deviations above the mean of 100. On a normal curve with a standard deviation of 15, the area at or below 120 is about 90.9 percent. This site calls that band superior. The percentile is a property of the curve. It is not a count of test-takers, and it is not an admission to anything.

What people hope 120 will settle
Searches around 120 often want a job inference, a Mensa inference, or a school inference. Those are membership and selection rules. They name a test, a cutoff, and sometimes a date. A number on a website does not enter you. A number on the wrong test does not enter you either. If a society publishes a list of accepted instruments, only those instruments count, and this site is not on such a list.
One hundred and twenty is a high score on the descriptive scale. It is compatible with demanding academic work for many people, and it does not guarantee that work will feel easy. Why 120 is not the gifted line people quote
Many programs that publish a number use 130, about the 98th percentile, or a nearby cutoff such as the 95th. One hundred and twenty clears neither of those if the rule is strict. Some programs use a lower bar, or more than one score, or no IQ line at all. What an IQ of 130 means is the page for the higher line. Do not round 120 up because the band name sounds close.
On a Wechsler report, 120 might be Full Scale IQ, GAI, or a single index. Those are different summaries. GAI drops working memory and processing speed. An index is one domain.
