Online IQ test vs a WAIS

A WAIS is a standardized adult battery given by a qualified examiner under a publisher’s rules. The test on this site is nine browser tasks that estimate an overall score and a profile. They are not substitutes. This page contrasts what each one can be used for, and it cites clinic prices other people have published. It does not compute a national average.

What a WAIS sitting is

The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale is a published clinical instrument. A psychologist or other qualified examiner administers it, scores it with the manual’s norms, and writes an interpretation. The norms are age-based. The report can include Full Scale IQ, index scores, and sometimes the General Ability Index. Schools, clinics, disability processes, and some high-IQ societies name this kind of test when they name a test at all. A website cannot issue that report.

The child’s analogue is the WISC, not the WAIS. Parents reading a school evaluation want WISC-V scores explained, including GAI versus FSIQ. Subtests by edition are on GAI on WAIS and WISC. This page stays with the adult clinical battery only long enough to say why its price and its authority are different from a browser estimate.

Clinic prices that have been published, not a national average

A cost note updated 12 September 2026 lists US examples it gathered, and this page uses only those examples. Source: WAIS cost notes. It describes private “IQ test only” examples at USD 600 from Dana Grote in Colorado and from Florida Pediatric Psychology Associates. It gives the University of Alabama Psychology Clinic’s adult assessment as USD 250–650. It also lists broader evaluations at USD 3,300 and USD 5,000. Those are the figures named on that page. They are not a mean this laboratory calculated, and they are not a quote from every clinic.

Read them as a range of published examples: a few hundred dollars when the product is a narrow adult assessment at the clinic named, and thousands when the product is a broader evaluation. Fees change, and a clinic’s own page is the fee that matters if you are booking. The point of the contrast is the kind of work. An examined, normed battery with a written clinical report is a different service from nine tasks in a browser.

Nothing above is a price gaivsiq charges for a WAIS. This site does not administer a WAIS or a WISC.

What the online test costs and what it refuses

The nine tasks are free. There is no sign-up. In about 30 minutes you get an overall IQ estimate and a profile name, plus GAI and the gap. The optional written reading is a one-time USD 19.99: five domain scores, nine task scores, GAI, CPI, and prose about where reasoning sits versus memory and speed. That price is not a discount on a clinic evaluation. It buys an interpretation of an unnormed estimate. What instant means says what arrives the moment you finish.

Use the free test when you have no report and you want a personal picture you can name. Use a WAIS when a decision requires a standardized adult score: a clinical question, a formal accommodation, a program that listed the instrument. How this estimate differs from a Wechsler stays on the scoring limits. How scores are made states that we do not invent a reliability coefficient.

The nine-task test on this site prints numbers on a conventional mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15 so the parts of one sitting can be compared. That conversion is not a census norm, not age-normed, and not a diagnosis. A qualified examiner and the publisher’s manual are what a school, a clinic, a job, or a visa can use.

Which one to open

  • No report, and the question is personal: start the free IQ test.
  • A WISC or WAIS is already printed, and the question is the gap: use the GAI calculator. Do not retake a browser test to “check” the clinic.
  • A school, a court, an employer, or a clinic asked for a Wechsler: book the examiner. This site will not replace that appointment.
  • You want to see the layout of the written reading before paying: open the sample report. The numbers there are invented.

Paying USD 19.99 does not move your estimate onto a WAIS norm. Paying a clinic does not make this website’s tasks part of their file. Keep the two products apart, including in the way you talk about the score afterward.

Common questions

Is this site’s test a WAIS?

No. It is an unnormed nine-task estimate. It cannot be used as a WAIS score.

How much does a WAIS cost?

There is no single national price on this page. A published set of examples lists USD 600 for some “IQ test only” sittings, USD 250–650 for one university clinic’s adult assessment, and broader evaluations at USD 3,300 and USD 5,000. See the source linked above.

What does USD 19.99 buy here?

A one-time written reading of this site’s estimate: domain scores, task scores, GAI, CPI, and the pattern. The overall estimate and the profile name are free.

If you do not have a WAIS report

Take the free estimate. About 30 minutes, no sign-up. It will not pretend to be the clinic battery.
