Sample IQ and GAI report

The sheet the laboratory issues after nine tasks. These scores are invented so the layout can be read without a sitting. Not a WAIS, WISC, or diagnosis.

How to read

The blocks on the sheet

Read the two composites first, then the gap, then the shape of the five indexes. Task scores explain the indexes. They do not replace them.

Key to the specimen sheet
BlockWhat it isHow to read it
Full Scale IQFSIQThe usual IQ. Mean of the five primary indexes. One number for the whole sitting. Easy to over-read when the indexes disagree.
General Ability IndexGAIReasoning only: verbal, fluid, and visuospatial work.Drops working memory and processing speed. The published idea of Wechsler GAI.
GapGAI − FSIQSubtraction. Positive when efficiency pulled the average down.A few points can already be a real split on a Wechsler. This sheet names the size; it does not look up Pearson tables.
Cognitive Proficiency IndexCPIWorking memory and processing speed. The other half of the story. When GAI sits above FSIQ, CPI is usually the drag.
Five domainsVCI · FRI · VSI · WMI · PSICHC / WAIS-5-generation indexes on the IQ scale (mean 100, SD 15).Blue rows enter GAI. The radar is the shape. Do not treat one peak as a diagnosis.
Nine tasks50 ± 10Construct-aligned analogs of representative Wechsler tasks.Task scores are not scaled scores from a manual. They sit on a 50/10 metric so the profile can be compared to itself.

Interpretation

GAI sits above the IQ number

Words sit above visual structure. Reasoning (GAI) sits above memory and speed (CPI). GAI sits 7 points above the overall IQ.

A 5–14 point GAI > FSIQ split is common enough that it should not be treated as a hidden genius score. Read both numbers. If school or work feels harder than the IQ suggests, look at memory and speed before treating FSIQ as the whole story.

Peak verbal comprehension · CPI 95 · more effortful processing speed.

GAI vs CPI

Reasoning outruns efficiency

GAI is reasoning without memory or speed. CPI is the other half: how efficiently information is held and moved. Gap = GAI − CPI = +21.

GAI

116

Verbal, fluid, and visuospatial reasoning.

CPI

95

Working memory and processing speed.

GAI − CPI

+21

Positive when reasoning outruns efficiency.

GAI sits well above CPI. This is the usual shape when Full Scale IQ is pulled down by working memory or processing speed. Untimed reasoning can look stronger than timed or hold-in-mind work. Neither index is the “real IQ.”

Five domains

Index reads

Each index is on the IQ scale (mean 100, SD 15). Blue cards enter GAI.

  • Gc · VCI

    Verbal comprehension

    125

    Superior

Word knowledge and verbal concept formation.

This index is word knowledge and verbal concept formation — stored language, not how fast you write. About 16 points above this profile’s Full Scale IQ. This is the peak index on the sheet.

  • Gf · FRI

    Fluid reasoning

    111

    High average

Finding a new rule and applying it.

This index is finding a new rule and applying it. It does not include vocabulary or timed search. Close to this profile’s Full Scale IQ.

  • Gv · VSI

    Visuospatial processing

    103

    Average

Seeing structure in space and assembling it.

This index is seeing structure in space and assembling it. It is not the same as verbal reasoning. Close to this profile’s Full Scale IQ.

  • Gwm · WMI

    Working memory

    96

    Average

Holding and reversing information for a few seconds.

This index is holding and reversing information for a few seconds. It can move Full Scale IQ without changing GAI. About 13 points below this profile’s Full Scale IQ.

  • Gs · PSI

    Processing speed

    96

    Average

    Simple visual decisions under time.

This index is simple visual decisions under time. It can move Full Scale IQ without changing GAI. About 13 points below this profile’s Full Scale IQ. This is the most effortful index on the sheet.

How to read this sheet

Read the shape, not only the average

  1. GAI and Full Scale IQ agree closely. One number is a fair headline. The five indexes still show the texture.
  2. GAI is 21 points above CPI. Timed or hold-in-mind work scored lower than untimed reasoning. That split is why the full-scale number can sit below GAI. It describes this session, not a condition.
  3. Highest index on this sheet: Verbal comprehension. Lowest: Processing speed. Treat a gap under about 8 points as ordinary scatter.

This is a construct-aligned estimate, not a WAIS or WISC, and not a diagnosis of ADHD, a learning disability, or giftedness. It is not a school, job, or accommodation document. A one- or two-point difference is noise. If you already have official scores, paste them into the calculator instead of re-testing.

Limits

What this specimen is not

  1. Not a WAIS, WISC, or Pearson product. The laboratory does not administer a Wechsler.
  2. Not age-normed on a census sample. Percentiles are from a normal 100/15 curve.
  3. No SEM and no confidence interval. We do not invent a reliability we have not measured.
  4. Not a diagnosis, and not valid for school, disability, or employment decisions.
  5. After a real sitting, the overall IQ estimate and the profile name are free. This sheet is the written reading.
