How to use it

How to compare GAI and CPI

  1. Find the two composites. On the first pages of the report, find General Ability Index (GAI) and Cognitive Proficiency Index (CPI).
  2. Enter both scores. Type GAI and CPI into the calculator. Both must be standard scores between 40 and 160.
  3. Read the gap. Gap = GAI − CPI. This names whether reasoning sits above or below memory and speed. It does not pick a “real IQ.”

What is CPI?

CPI is the Cognitive Proficiency Index: working memory plus processing speed. It is the efficiency half of the same Wechsler report that printed GAI. GAI vs CPI names whether reasoning sits above or below that efficiency. It does not pick a “real IQ.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a GAI vs CPI calculator compute?

Only one subtraction: Gap = GAI − CPI. You type two official composites from a WISC or WAIS report. It does not re-score subtests or look up Pearson tables.

How is GAI vs CPI different from GAI vs IQ?

GAI vs IQ asks whether memory or speed pulled Full Scale IQ away from reasoning. GAI vs CPI names that split directly: reasoning versus working memory and processing speed. They are not two candidates for “the real IQ.”

When is GAI higher than CPI?

When untimed reasoning sits above how quickly information is held and moved. That is the usual shape when FSIQ is lower than GAI. Name the split. Do not treat GAI as a hidden genius score.

Does this replace a clinician?

No. It reads two numbers you already have. It cannot diagnose ADHD, a learning disability, or giftedness, and it is not a Pearson product.
