Free online IQ test

About 30 minutes. Nine tasks in the browser, no account. You get an overall IQ estimate and a cognitive profile — a named pattern on this sitting. Not a WAIS, WISC, or diagnosis.

This estimate is for personal understanding and cannot be used for medical diagnosis.

  • 9 tasks · about 30 minutesEach task is a few minutes. You do not have to finish in one sitting.
  • Phone-friendly · resume by taskIt runs in the browser. Stop after any task and come back later.
  • CHC model · GAI vs Full Scale IQFive domains, then two composites: the usual IQ, and reasoning without memory or speed.

How it works

How the test is used

Sit the nine tasks. There is no countdown and no account. The free result is an overall IQ estimate and a profile name. The gap is subtraction.

The one-time sheet explains the pattern: domain scores, task scores, GAI, CPI, and where reasoning sits versus memory and speed.

What you can read

Free, as soon as the nine tasks are done: overall IQ and a profile name, plus GAI and the gap. The one-time sheet is the interpretation of that pattern.

The laboratory

What GAIvsIQ publishes

CHC theory is the framework behind tests such as WAIS and WJ. The laboratory uses that map, then keeps GAI and Full Scale IQ apart — the comparison most official reports already print.

Built on CHC theory

The same theoretical framework behind intelligence tests such as WAIS and WJ. Five broad abilities: verbal knowledge, fluid reasoning, visual processing, working memory, and processing speed.

How scores are made →

WAIS-5-generation structure

Five primary indexes, with visuospatial processing split from fluid reasoning. GAI still drops working memory and processing speed. The subtests change by edition.

GAI on the WAIS-IV →

9 tasks

Construct-aligned analogs of representative Wechsler tasks, written for a browser. About 30 minutes. You can move forward one task at a time.

Design of the 9 tasks →

Official scores, not re-scored

If you already have FSIQ, GAI, CPI, or the primary indexes from a report, paste them. We subtract and read. We do not invent a reliability coefficient or an SEM we have not measured.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The free test, the profile name, and what the laboratory will not claim.

Do I need an account?

No. The nine tasks do not ask you to sign in. Answers stay in this browser. My page is optional: if you later sign in, a finished sitting is saved to that email. If you pay, the checkout email is the key to the detailed sheet.

Can I take the test for free?

Yes. All nine tasks are free, with no sign-up. After you finish, the overall IQ estimate, a profile name, GAI, and the gap are free. The sample shows the full sheet. Your own written reading — domain scores, task scores, GAI, and CPI — is a one-time purchase, saved to the checkout email.

What results can I see for free?

An overall IQ estimate, a profile name from the verbal–visual and reasoning–proficiency axes, General Ability Index (GAI), and GAI − FSIQ. The sample report shows the layout of the written reading, including the five domains.

View a sample report →

What does GAIvsIQ measure?

Five CHC / WAIS-5 domains through nine tasks: verbal comprehension, fluid reasoning, visuospatial processing, working memory, and processing speed. From those we estimate FSIQ, GAI, and the gap.

How scores are made →

How long does it take?

About 30 minutes across nine tasks. Each task is only a few minutes. You do not need to finish everything in one sitting: you can move forward one task at a time.

Can I take it on a smartphone?

Yes. The test runs in the browser. You do not need to install an app or create an account. Answers stay in this browser.

How accurate are the results?

The calculator uses the two official composites you type in. The nine-task battery is a construct-aligned estimate on a 100/15 scale. It is not age-normed and not a Pearson test. We do not invent a reliability coefficient or a standard error of measurement we have not measured. If a sitting is mostly the same option, or finished faster than the items can be read, we mark it as thin — a check on that run, not a clinical validity scale.

See the method and limits →

Can I use it for medical diagnosis?

No. This is for personal understanding. It is not a WAIS or WISC, and it cannot diagnose ADHD, a learning disability, or giftedness. Diagnosis belongs with a clinician.

What the laboratory can and cannot do →

How does GAI compare to IQ?

When people say IQ they usually mean Full Scale IQ (FSIQ). GAI is a published Wechsler ancillary composite: the same general-ability idea, built from reasoning subtests only. It leaves out working memory and processing speed, so it can sit higher or lower than the number on page one.

GAI vs FSIQ →

Is GAI the same as FSIQ?

No. FSIQ uses the full core battery. GAI uses verbal, spatial, and fluid reasoning and drops working memory and processing speed. On WISC-V that is Similarities, Vocabulary, Block Design, Matrix Reasoning, and Figure Weights. When the two efficiency indexes sit far below reasoning, GAI is often higher than FSIQ.

Subtests by edition →

I already have official scores. Do I need the test?

No. Paste Full Scale IQ and GAI from the report into the calculator. If the report also lists CPI or the primary indexes, those have their own instruments. We do not re-score the Wechsler.

Open the official-score calculators →

Is GAI my actual IQ?

Neither number is more real. FSIQ is the standard summary. GAI is the better summary of reasoning when memory or speed dragged the composite down. A large gap means one number is a poor description, not that one score is fake.

What GAI score is gifted?

Many programs use 130 (about the 98th percentile). Some accept GAI when FSIQ was pulled down by working memory or processing speed. Cutoffs vary — check the program, not this site.

Who do I write to?
